Lion in the Sun was established in November 1981
in Solana Beach, California. The original aim was to present
a full service floral design center to fulfill the needs of
the community. A high style, tropical floral design ideology
permeated the original conception.
Since its original inception, the design center
has become a leader in the creation of fabulous weddings and
celebrations for any occasion. Bookings are in demand not
only for the local community, but also for the greater San
Diego area, including La Jolla, Point Loma, Coronado, and
Rancho Mirage, as well as the Los Angeles area, including
Beverly Hills, and as far as Denver, Colorado.

Concepts for parties have ranged from "Moon
over Morocco" (a celebration for the KIT Foundation)
and "A Night in Casablanca at Rick's American Café"
to "Frogpurgesnacht" (a parody based on the Walpurgesnacht
Tale). Future events will include "Safari So-Good"
(celebrating the writers of African Literature), "Anyway
the Wind Blows," "Its Greek to Me" (based on
the Greek theme of Ariadne in the Maze), and "The Spin-Off
Auction" at the Hyatt Aventine in La Jolla benefiting
the Stevens Cancer Center at Scripps Hospital. These parties
are conceptualized by Day Power, the assistant. Additional
celebrations that have been realized include the Grand Opening
of Hitachi/America on Otay Mesa, and The Salk Institute of
Biological Research Foundation Dinner in La Jolla.
